Diabetes Assessments

Checking blood flow during a diabetes foot assessment

Diabetes mellitus is a condition that occurs from having too much glucose in the blood due to the body’s inability to produce or use insulin properly.

Conducting a diabetes foot assessment and testing nerve sensation

High sugar levels cause an increased risk of damage to the nerves and blood vessels in the body and early signs often occur in the feet. Due to this increased risk, it is important to have a diabetes foot assessment and ongoing Podiatry care.

A vascular and neurological assessment will be conducted and results summarised for your specialist. This assessment is recommended every 6 to 12 months and education is provided on how to prevent long term complications for your foot health.

Due to increased risk of infection and pressure breakdowns, routine nail and skin treatment is recommended, along with footwear assessments and daily foot checks at home.
